Physical Surrounds

1) Keep your desk tidy.

Start a new trend in your organisation! Spending just a single minute every day organising your paperwork will help declutter your workstation. Clutter can cause unnecessary visual distractions at work. Plus you will save yourself from the frustrations of looking for those all-important lost documents too! How many coffee cups do you have next to you?

2) Make sure your workstation is set up correctly.

You could be spending unnecessary time daily reaching around your workspace for items. This will include things like your keyboard, mouse, monitor, reference documents, phone and stationary. Bad posture or unhealthy stretches and contortions can cause RSI (Repetitive Strain Injuries). Take a look at the ‘easy reach zone’ and ensure that your workstation is set out how it should be or organise an assessment.

3) Create better lighting.

Think about the way you work and avoid eye strain. Remember that computer monitors emit light whereas paper reflects light. If you and your team spend time studying documents, you’ll need more light than when you’re working at your computers. You might benefit from a natural daylight task lamp.

Set Objectives

4) Set S.M.A.R.T. Objectives.

Setting Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time bound targets will help you organise and prioritise your work more efficiently; reducing the time you spend on the less important tasks. Having clear goals can also motivate you and your team too!

Attitude

5) Be positive

We often underestimate how much of an impact our optimism can have within our environment. We generally perform a lot better when we believe we can achieve our set achievable goals. Positive Attitude = Positive Results.
